‘ToT on ‘NREGS & Social Audit at Dharamshala 20th – 24th October, 2009’

A Training of Trainers Programme on ‘NREGS & Social Audit’ was organized by the Institute in collaboration with DRDA Kangra, from 20th – 24th October, 2009 at Dharamshala. The programme drew a massive response and was attended by around 60 participants consisting of elected representatives of PRIs, officers/officials of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Departments and local NGOs/CBOs. Technical Specialists from PRI-GTZ Project also provided support to the Institute in organisation of this programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Sh. R.S. Gupta, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Kangra, who in his inaugural address, flagged the message that Social Audit is a statutory provision under NREGA and Panchayats should come forward to do social audit for better implementation of schemes with the participation of stakeholders.

As part of the programme, the participants were taken to select Gram Panchayat CHETRU in Dharamshala Block and actual Social Audit of NREGA works was conducted in Gram Panchayat by the participants under the guidance of resource persons.

The participants were further divided into sub groups and each group was assigned the tasks of Community mobilization, muster roll watch and physical verification of the works executed under NREGS in the Panchayat Area. A special meeting of the Gram Sabha was organized in the Panchayat and the groups presented their detailed reports in the Gram Sabha.

Dr. Sandeep Bhatnagar, HAS, ADC Kangra also interacted with the participants in the valedictory function of the Programme and boosted their morale for effective implementation of the NREGA in the district.
