Why Town Planning

Town Planning is not a new thing. Best example of Town Planning is Indus Valley civilization. During their time, the Planning of town was done in planned manner. Directions of Sun and Wind were kept in mind while planning the towns besides the type of soil of the town. After this civilization many capitals of the State of India are example of Architecture and town planning, but after independence, due to population explosion and uncontrolled urbanization the objectives of Town planning is being ignored.

In Himachal Pradesh towns like, Shimla, Mandi, Dalhousie, Solan, Dharamshala has lot of its name due to unplanned construction activities. The same is problem along National and State Highways. The powers like Industrialization, Urbanization and Commercial activities are being on all sides and due to which environmental degradation related problems are coming up.

Today the future of our land is in danger. For urbanization we are sidelining the nature. For construction of houses we are cutting trees and mountains. In Shimla, Solan and few other towns of H.P. few newly constructed buildings were fallen at their own and the cases of land sliding has increased. Moreover, the tragedy like earthquake can also occur due to non-planned towns/buildings.

Therefore, by making rules and regulations the problem of Planning can not be solved. It require public awareness and awakening.
